The project of a new Ukrainian-German full-length film «Assassin’s Love» manufactured by «FRESH PRODUCTION» film-making company was presented on 27 October at 19:30 at the bookstore art-caf? Babuin (10 Simona Petliury ul.).
The following film critics and experts were present at the presentation of the new Ukrainian?German full-length film «Assassin’s Love» – a story of love of a KGB agent Bogdan Stashynskii and a German girl Inge Paul – Mykola Veresen, Les Poderevianskii, Vakhtang Kipiani and others. The film project was discussed in a heated and interesting atmosphere.
«Assassin’s Love» – is a love drama with elements of a spy movie in the context of a complicated moment of the Ukrainian history. The film director is Zaza Buadze, script writers are Zaza Buadze and Julia Cherniavskaya and producers are Julia Cherniavskaya and Oleg Shcherbina.
The film is supported from Germany by famous companies «Bavaria Film GmbH» and «German Films». Besides German partners the «FRESH PRODUCTION» producers have also managed to involve «The Film Finders» and «The Film Office» – two well-known Hollywood consulting companies.
Vakhtang Kipiani, chief editor of Vladometr and Historical Truth projects believes that «the story of Stashynskii is interesting because it is open … people who are interested in it know very little and know the same things. Maybe this film will help us learn more».
Simone Baumann, a representative of German Films: «Love story in the context of spy intrigues is a genre that is easy to sell; besides it is loved by the viewers, therefore I believe that this project may be successful not only in Germany and Ukraine but in Europe – all depends on the budget that we will manage to form. The project is also interesting to Germany because the character Inge Paul is a German and the action takes place in Germany».
Zaza Buadze, script writer and director of the project: «We all – script writers and directors – are looking out for great stories, and when my fried Taras Tkachenko showed me an article about Bogdan Stashynskii from the LIFE magazine – I found the story amazing. The story has it all: love, many-sided personalities and spy intrigues. However the most important is that the story is universal. It could have taken place in any country with totalitarian regime, heroes and betrayers and boundless love. It took us two years to write the script – we had to reconstruct historical facts completely and the facts were few. This film is based on a true story, but reality dictates its own rules and films have their own, and we allowed ourselves to step aside from reality a little and invent several moments, however only those necessary to create a good movie».
Oleg Shcherbina, project producer: «We would like world known actors to play leading roles. We have invited a strong German actor Morris Bleibtreu to play Stashynskii, and Kirsten Dunst to play Inge. We have already sent them the scripts and we are waiting for them to answer in the nearest future».
Several true facts about Bogdan and Inge: he was a KGB agent and political assassin. He lived and worked in the German Democratic Republic under the name of Joseph Leman. She was a hairdresser from Eastern Berlin who had no idea about true origin of Bogdan-Joseph and what was his real occupation. They fell in love and got married…
Bogdan?Joseph liquidated in Munich at least 2 Ukrainian Nationalist Organization leaders – Lev Rebet and Stepan Bandera, in time his communistic views and beliefs were shuttered. When their only child died, Joseph Leman was overwhelmed and revealed his secret to his wife and told her the truth about him, turning her world upside down. Inge did not leave him, instead she convinced him to flee from Eastern Berlin. They fled in the night of August 13th 1961, the night when construction of the Berliner wall began.
At the end of 2010 the script to Ukrainian-German full length film Assassin’s Love was selected to participate in «MFI Script 2 Film Workshop» program, and in September 2011 – was presented at «The Boat Meeting Co-production Forum 2011» at Kiev «Molodist» international film festival and was one of the works chosen by the expert review board.
